We use the shells, not the oysters. The shells contribute the mineral character, texture, and structure that help define Marine 01 and connect it to Maine's coast.

The shells keep working after we're done. Sterilization is part of our process, and from there we want them to have a second life. We're exploring a few paths: landscaping and paving material, returning them to the ocean, or grinding them into powder for feed at chicken hatcheries. We're continuing to explore the best uses for this underutilized resource.
