About Bold Coast Spirits®

Our Story

It started with a conversation. Then, ten years later, another one.

01 / First meeting · 2016

An idea they set aside.

Stuart Littlefield saw Jay Lombard pitch Finest Kind Tea on Greenlight Maine and invited him to his distillery. They talked about combining tea and spirits, but chose not to move forward. Jay went on to develop products for a leading specialty food company.

02 / A new idea

What could a spirit make of the coast?

Years later, Jay reached out with a different idea. Stuart had experience finding new uses for underutilized coastal ingredients. What could they make if they built a spirits brand around that experience?

That second conversation became Bold Coast Spirits®, founded by Stuart Littlefield and Jay Lombard.

03 / The people behind the process

From oyster farm to bottle.

Nor’Easter Oyster, co-owned by oyster farmer Sean Corcoran and Jacqueline Clarke, supplies the reclaimed Maine oyster shells for Bold Coast’s Oyster Shell Vodka.

Nor’Easter sources oysters that don’t make the half-shell market and shucks them for the meat. The shells find another purpose in the spirit.

04 / The first spirit

Oyster Shell Vodka is where the story begins.

Rested on shells from Nor’Easter, it reflects the idea at the heart of Bold Coast Spirits: that the coast can contribute something meaningful to what they make.

Merroir is the idea guiding what comes next.
